The Internet is an amazing tool. It has the power to change the way we live, and we’re starting to see that potential pay off as volunteers travel across the world to help those less fortunate.  With only a few mouse-clicks, you can find out about causes that mean something to you, places you want to visit, and organizations that bridge the gap between the two.

We believe you should have access to as much information as possible before making a decision to travel to different parts of the world, and we also believe your privacy is important while you research your prospective trips.  To protect your privacy, Owner follows different principles in accordance with practices for privacy and data protection.


  1. We won’t sell or give away your name, mailing address, phone number, email address or any other information to anyone.
  • We’ll use state-of-the-art security measures to protect your information from unauthorized users.


We will ask you when we need information that personally identifies you (personal information) or allows us to contact you. Generally, this information is requested when you create a Registration ID on the Site or when you download free software, order newsletters or join a limited-access premium site. We use your Personal Information for four primary purposes:


  1. To make the site easier for you to use by not having to enter information more than once.
  2. To help you quickly find software, services or information.

  2. Tell us whether you want us to send you marketing information, or whether you want third parties to send you their offers.

  4. Register. Once you register, you won’t need to do it again. Wherever you go on, your information stays with your account.

Owner has taken strong measures to protect the security of your personal information and to ensure that your choices for its intended use are honored. We take strong precautions to protect your data from loss, misuse, unauthorized access or disclosure, alteration, or destruction.

We guarantee your e-commerce transactions to be 100% safe and secure. When you place orders or access your personal account information, you’re utilizing secure server software SSL, which encrypts your personal information before it’s sent over the Internet. SSL is one of the safest encryption technologies available.

In addition, your transactions are guaranteed under the Fair Credit Billing Act. This Act states that your bank cannot hold you liable for more than $50.00 in fraudulent credit card charges. If your bank does hold you liable for $50.00 or less, we’ll cover your liability provided the unauthorized, fraudulent use of your credit card resulted through no fault of your own and from purchases made from us over our secure server. In the event of unauthorized use of your credit card, you must notify your credit card provider in accordance with its reporting rules and procedures.

Owner strictly protects the security of your personal information and honors your choices for its intended use. We carefully protect your data from loss, misuse, unauthorized access or disclosure, alteration, or destruction.

Your personal information is never shared outside the company without your permission, except under conditions explained above. Inside the company, data is stored in password-controlled servers with limited access. Your information may be stored and processed in the United States of America or any other country where Owner, its subsidiaries, affiliates or agents are located.


You also have a significant role in protecting your information. No one can see or edit your personal information without knowing your user name and password, so do not share these with others.


  1. Notice To Parents.

Parents or guardians: we want to help you guard your children’s privacy. We encourage you to talk to your children about safe and responsible use of their Personal Information while using the Internet.

The Owner site does not publish content that is targeted to children and our purpose is to give you and your family members the most up to date information and opinions on volunteer opportunities throughout the world.  Some of which may be appropriate for people of all ages, while other may be suitable only for adults.  Each opportunity is different, so you and others thinking about, or wishing to find out more about each opportunity should conduct a thorough review of each opportunity that interests you.


  1. Enforcement.

If for some reason you believe Owner has not adhered to these principles, please notify us via email or any other method listed on and we will do our best to determine and correct the problem promptly. Be certain the words Privacy Policy are in the Subject line of your communication.


  1. Customer Profiles.

As mentioned above, every registered customer has a unique personal profile. Each profile is assigned a unique personal identification username that helps us ensure that only you can access your profile.

When you register, we create your profile, assign a personal identification number, then send this personal identification number back to your hard drive in the form of a cookie, which is a very small bit of code. This code is uniquely yours. It is your passport to seamless travel across, allowing you to take full advantage of the Site without having to fill out registration forms with information you’ve already provided. Even if you switch computers, you won’t have to re-register – just use your Registration ID to identify yourself.


  1. What We Do With The Information You Share.

When you join us, you provide us with your contact information, including your name and email address. We use this information to send you updates about your order, questionnaires to measure your satisfaction with our service and announcements about new and exciting services that we offer. When you order from us, we ask for your credit card number and billing address. We use this information only to bill you for the product(s) you order at that time. For your convenience, we do save billing information in case you want to order from us again, but we don’t use this information again without your permission.

We occasionally hire other companies to provide limited services on our behalf, including packaging, mailing and delivering purchases, answering customer questions about products or services, sending postal mail and processing event registration. We will only provide those companies the information they need to deliver the service, and they are prohibited from using that information for any other purpose.

Owner will disclose your personal information, without notice, only if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is necessary to: (a) conform to the edicts of the law or comply with legal process served on Owner or the site; (b) protect and defend the rights or property of Owner and its family of Websites, and, (c) act in urgent circumstances to protect the personal safety of users of Owner, its Websites, or the public.

We may store the information you submit to or through the Site, as well as information we collect in connection with your use of the Site.

We use the information to fulfill your requests, provide the Site’s functionality, improve the Site’s quality, personalize your experience, track usage of the Site, provide feedback to businesses that are listed on the Site, display relevant advertising, provide customer support, message you, back up our systems and allow for disaster recovery, enhance the security of the Site, and comply with legal obligations.

Account Information: If you create an account on IAmTheVoluntourist, we may store and use your full name, email address, zip code and other information you may provide with your account, such as your gender and birth date. Your first name and last initial, as well as any photo you submit through the registration process, will be publicly displayed as part of your account profile. You can modify some of the information associated with your account upon written notice. If you feel an unauthorized account has been created depicting you or your likeness, you can request its removal by contacting our Administrator.

Public Content:            All information you post to the Site is intended for public consumption, including your reviews, tips, comments, likes, posts, lists, compliments, and account profile. We may display this information on the Site, share it with businesses, and further distribute it to a wider audience through third party sites and services.

Contacts:                      You can invite your friends to join the Site by providing their contact information.  If you invite a friend to join and connect with you on the Site, we may transmit your friend’s contact information to IAmTheVoluntourist long enough to process your requests.

Communications:        When you sign up for an account, you are opting in to receive emails from other IAmTheVoluntourist businesses and IAmTheVoluntourist itself.  You can manage your email preferences but note that you cannot opt out of receiving certain administrative or legal notices from IAmTheVoluntourist.  If you send information from the Site to your phone via SMS text message, we may log your phone number, phone carrier, and the date and time that the message was processed. Carriers may charge recipients for texts that they receive.

Site Activity:     We may store information about your use of the Site. We also may store information your computer or mobile device provides to us including your browser type, type of computer or mobile device, browser language, IP address, mobile carrier, unique device identifier, location, and requested and referring URLs.

We outsource some of IAmTheVoluntourist’s functions and operations to third-party providers, such as technical and customer support, tracking and reporting functions, quality assurance testing, payment processing functions, and other services in order to assure you the best possible experience while using the Site. We may share information from or about you with these third-party providers so they can perform their services or complete your requests.

Business Transfers: We may share information received from you or about you with subsidiaries, joint ventures, or other companies under common control.  If we do share this information with these types of entities, we require them to honor this Privacy Policy. If another company acquires IAmTheVoluntourist or all or substantially all of our assets, that company will possess the same information, and will assume the rights and obligations with respect to that information as described in this Privacy Policy.

            Investigations: We may chose to investigate and disclose information from or about volunteer opportunities and/or organizations if we have a good faith belief that an investigation or disclosure of information is (a) reasonably necessary to comply with legal process and/or law enforcement instructions and orders (e.g. search warrants, subpoenas, statutes, judicial proceedings, etc.); (b) helpful to identify possible wrongdoing in connection with the use of this Site; or (c) protect our rights, reputation, property, or that of our users, affiliates, or members of the public.

            Links: The Site may contain links to unaffiliated third party websites such as organizations providing experiences. Except as described herein, we will not share your personal information with these third parties, and we are not responsible for their privacy practices. You should review the privacy policies of each third party website prior to use.

            Facebook and Twitter: In the future, we may receive information from Facebook to make it easier for you to share your experiences with your Facebook friends and customize your content.  This information will personalize your experience and may help you create your IAmTheVoluntourist account.


  1. Controlling Your Personal Data.

The information you provide to any online website may be used to identify you, or associate you with your account.  It is best to avoid providing information that can identify you if you do not want to be identified.


  1. Data Retention And Account Termination.

You can close your account at any time by following the directions on the Site. We will remove your public posts from view and/or dissociate them from your account profile, but we may retain information about you for the purposes authorized under this Privacy Policy unless prohibited by law. For example, we may retain information to prevent, investigate, or identify possible wrongdoing in connection with the Site or to comply with legal obligations.


  1. Children.

The Site is intended as an information source for general audiences and is not directed to children under 13. If you become aware that a child has provided us with personal information without parental consent, please contact us immediately so we can remove the information and, if appropriate, terminate an account held by a child.

Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee the information you are providing to us is 100% secure.  Please your discretion before submitting any personal information to us.

If you believe that IAmTheVoluntourist has not adhered to this Privacy Policy you may contact us online through the Site detailing your complaint and concerns.


  1. Jurisdiction.

The information we obtain from or about you may be processed and stored in the United States, which may provide for different data protection rules than the country in which you reside. We will respond to requests relating to personal data within 30 days.


  1. Modifications To This Privacy Policy.

This Privacy Policy may to revised on occasion.  The most recent version of this Privacy Policy governs our use of information.  If we make material changes to this Privacy Policy, we will notify you by a reasonable means and posting a notice on the Site prior to the effective date of the changes.  If you continue to access our Site after the effective date of the updated Privacy Policy, you are agreeing to be held to the term of the revised Privacy Policy.
